The Walkerton Legion is holding its annual ‘Honour a Hero’ display this week.
Organizer Butch Kieffer says this year’s display runs from Sunday until Friday, and is bigger and better than ever.
He says they have a very extensive collection of personal war memorabilia that includes military weapons, uniforms, medals, photographs and letters from the front.
Kieffer says the display includes everything from the 32nd Bruce Battalion of 1885, to both World Wars as well as Korea and present day Afghanistan.
He notes weapons such as decommissioned guns, grenades, bayonet’s and daggers will also be on display.
Many of the exhibits are Canadian, but there are also German, British and American artifacts as well.
90 per cent of the memorabilia are from Kieffer’s personal collection, most of which was donated to him by veterans and their family members.
Kieffer says the Honour a Hero Display is his way of keeping the veteran’s stories alive.
He invites everyone — especially youth — to drop by the Walkerton Legion this week to take in the free exhibit.
