Grey County Council will have a dramatic new look as a result of municipal elections.
Eight of the 18 spots on County Council will be filled by new people who hail from seven of Grey’s nine municipalities.
In Grey Highlands, the electoral defeats of Mayor Brian Mullin and Deputy Mayor Dave Fawcett mean there will be two new county councillors — Mayor-elect Wayne Fitzgerald and Deputy Mayor-elect Paul McQueen.
The other municipalities with new representation are Chatsworth, Hanover, Meaford, Owen Sound, Southgate and West Grey.
Only Georgian Bluffs and The Blue Mountains will again be represented by their current county councillors.
Warden Arlene Wright looks forward to working with the new members of council.
The warden — who was acclaimed to a second term as Owen Sound’s City County councillor — noted that three of the eight newcomers are not really new — they were all part of county council until 2006.
They are Deb Haswell, Harley Greenfield and Bob White.
The other “newcomers” to county government are Chatsworth Deputy Mayor-elect Terry McKay, Southgate Deputy Mayor-elect Norman Jack and West Grey Deputy Mayor-elect John Bell.
Wright says most everyone has ample previous municipal council experience and it should be no problem for people to get up to speed.
She points out the County offers an orientation day during which all of the various department directors will introduce themselves and talk about what they do.
Wright is also looking forward to working with the new Owen Sound council, which of course will include a new mayor.
