Bruce County’s former tourism manager has been named the 2010 winner of the Charlie Kelly award.
Chris Hughes received the award Wednesday afternoon at the conclusion of the 11th annual Grey Bruce and Owen Sound fall tourism conference, held in Port Elgin.
Hughes says there are so many people in Bruce and Grey that are deserving of this award and he’s honoured and shocked that he was chosen.
In his acceptance speech, Hughes says he had the best job in the world, promoting tourism and he acknowledged Bruce County for empowering his staff to come up with the best possible programs for the area.
This is the second win for Hughes since he started work for the county 10 years ago.
For nearly thirty years, the Charlie Kelly Award has recognized the person who has advanced tourism in the region.
This award is made by Bayshore Broadcasting in concert with the Grey-Bruce Regional Tourism Marketing Partners.
Charlie Kelly was instrumental in extending the local building and tourism seasons to 12-months.
Meanwhile Hughes has gone into business with his wife Beverley, using his skills to consult communities across Canada that are developing tourist plans.
