The federal New Democrat candidate in Huron-Bruce is warming up his party’s call to eliminate the harmonized sales tax from the cost of home heating.
Grant Robertson says the federal numbers didn’t add up during the initial talks and says that now the people who could least afford to pay the HST to heat their homes will continue to be hit the hardest.
Robertson tells us the NDP sees only one way of solving the harmonized sales tax issue; he believes the Harper government needs to drop the federal portion of the HST on home and farm heating.
He points out the provincial NDP is also calling for the 8 per-cent provincial portion of the HST to be dropped.
Robertson says home heating is a necessity which should be made as affordable as possible for all of us.
