It should have taken only a half-hour after the election polls closed at 8pm to get the results of the Kincardine election.
People at the municipal building were still waiting almost two hours later.
Kincardine CAO John deRosenroll says you can blame it on that ever-popular “technical glitch.”
deRosenroll says the original plan was to start running ballots through the tabulator at 2 PM on election day which would have put them several hours ahead.
He says a technical representatives from the tabulator company was on hand and worked through the glitch.
As soon as it was corrected though, the process indicated the returning officer then had to run through a very thorough pre-test to double check the scanners and it came out sucessfully.
But it did delay the feeding of the ballots through the tabulators until just before 6pm on election night.
deRosenroll says the election returning team did a very meticulous and professional job and it was too bad results were delayed until amost 10 PM.
Once those results were posted, Mayor Larry Kraemer scored a slim margin, in beating Deputy Mayor Laura Haight by only 38 votes.
Ron Stephens came in third.
Meanwhile, Anne Eadie will become the new Deputy Mayor, after received the most votes of the 7 candidates in the Councillors at Large race.
She picked up just over 3,660 votes.
Eadie is completing a term as councillor for Huron Kinloss but she has since moved to Kincardine.
Other Councillor at Large winners are incumbent Ken Craig, former Kincardine councillor Maureen Couture and newcomer Ron Coristine.
In Ward One Jaacqueline Faubert and incumbent Mike Leggett were winners.
In Ward Two, Candy Hewitt defeated incumbent Gord Campbell.
