There have been no calls for recounts in Grey Bruce after Monday’s municipal election despite some tight races.
Kincardine Mayor Larry Kraemer was re-elected by only 38 votes over Laura Haight.
In Owen Sound — Deb Haswell defeated incumbent Ruth Lovell Stanners by 41 votes.
There were several Council races around the region that had close finishes.
In South Bruce Peninsula — Councillor Jay Kirkland won by only 2 votes in Ward 2 over Yvonne Harron.
And in Arran Elderslie — Brian Dudgeon won the Elderslie Ward Council seat over William McCullough by 25 votes.
Acting Owen Sound Manager Glen Henry says a defeated candidate is no longer able to request a recount, nor is one automatically triggered by anything other than a tie.
He says council has the power to order a recount within 30 days of the election.
And despite the severance packages that outgoing members of Toronto City Council will receive — no local Councillors are entitled to the same benefit.
The 13 members of Council and Mayor replaced in Monday’s election in Toronto will share a total of 1.2 million dollars.
