Family and Haiti.
Those are the two new focuses of South Bruce Peninsula Mayor Gwen Gilbert.
Gilbert lost her seat in Monday’s election to challenger John Close.
As a matter of fact Gilbert came in a distant third behind Close and Paul Deacon.
Gilbert says it’s been a tough four years at the helm of the municipality and she said it was unfortunate that some at the council table came with personal agendas.
Nevertheless she says council did accomplish a lot during its term and leaves a solid foundation for the new council.
Besides Gilbert, all incumbent councillors that ran for office lost their seats as well so it’s a wholesale change.
Gilbert says she’ll now focus on her family.
She says she has five grandchildren and a sixth on the way to spoil.
Gilbert will also continue her humanitarian work in earthquake-ravaged Haiti with a planned trip to the country this winter to help where her group can with the cholera outbreak.
The new council takes over in December.
