High winds are in our forecast today and that has prompted Enviornment Canada to issue wind warnings for Grey, Bruce, Huron, Perth and Simcoe Counties and many other parts of Southern Ontario.
It’s all a result of a huge storm that is battering the U-S Midwest and parts of Northwest Ontario.
The high winds are blamed for knocking out electricity to thousands of homes across Ontario on Wednesday.
At one point in the afternoon — nearly 50 thousand homes lost power.
In Bruce and Grey Counties — more than six thousand homes were without electricity at the height of the problems.
The strong winds were also blamed for knocking a piece of steel off the roof of a downtown Owen Sound vet clinic and cutting a hydro line in half.
Residents in Goderich and Creemore also battled outages.
On Tuesday — the monster storm spanned from the Dakotas to the eastern Great Lakes had barometric pressure similar to a Category-Three hurricane, but with much less destructive power.
Forecasters said the storm’s pressure was worse than what produced the 1975 storm that sank the Edmund Fitzgerald in Lake Superior.
