The winds of change have blown through the Town of South Bruce Peninsula.
The crowd that was gathered at a local restaurant in Sauble Beach erupted with applause once it revealed that John Close had won the Mayor’s seat for South Bruce Peninsula.
Close came in with 2725 votes — Paul Deacon followed closely behind at 2273 votes.
In a distant third was the incumbent Gwen Gilbert with 1408 votes — a trend that would set the tone for the rest of the evening as none of the incumbents will be back for another term.
Jim Turner and Paul McKenzie came came out on top in Ward 1 with 707 and 689 votes respectively.
In Ward 2 it was Karen Klages with 585 votes and Jay Kirkland at 578.
In Ward 3 Janice Jackson, with a big majority at 1153 votes, and Marilyn Bowman far behind at 762 votes.
And Ward 4 it was Chris Thomas and Matthew Standen with 744 and 732 votes.
Meanwhile, Close says there will be a definite learning curve involved for the new council.
He says he is optimistic they can work together well.
