Saugeen Shores Police partnered with Victim Services of Grey-Bruce to help 47 victims of crime in the past year.
The annual police luncheon was held at the end of September, and the Saugeen Shores Police Service was presented with a certificate of thanks.
Victim Services Managing Director Anne Elliot says there were a total of 609 calls in the 2009/2010 year, with 47 of those calls in Saugeen Shores.
She says police are the main point of contact for identifying victims of crime and referring them to Victim Services.
Elliot says they’ll then contact those victims either at the point of crime or at a later date to offer help.
Those referred could be victims of abuse, sudden death, stalking, fire or traffic accidents.
Elliot says the annual luncheon is a chance to bring the police forces together to talk about the common interest of helping those who have been affected by crime.
She adds it’s a chance to update law enforcement on new initiatives.
