The VRE outbreak at Wiarton’s Hospitals inpatient unit is now over.
Grey Bruce Health Services made the announcement today.
The inpatient unit was closed to new admissions since last Tuesday as a precautionary measure after four patients tested positive for VRE.
Grey Bruce Health Services spokesperson Jim Merriam tells Bayshore Broadcasting News that no in-patients became sick with an infection associated with the bacteria.
So now the unit is being reopened to admissions.
However, even with the outbreak being declared over, strict hand hygiene protocols will continue to be encouraged at the unit, including for visitors.
The decision to close the unit was taken as a precautionary measure as a means of preventing further transmission of the bacteria.
