Gourds will be defying gravity in Kemble on Saturday as the annual Kemble Harvest Blowout, Pumpkin Chuckin gets underway.
Dozens of competitors with various pumpkin hurling contraptions will set up shop at the Sutherland farm southwest of Kemble to see who can toss a Pumpkin the longest distance.
David White is the Chair of the Kemble Harvest Blowout and says every year more than one thousand people come out to see this unusual event.
Besides the pumpkin tossing, there also will be potato gun competition as well.
White says the Pumpkins can be tossed by catapult, air, centrifugal power, trebuchet or human power.
He says in the air cannon class, compressed air can fire pumpkins more than three thousand feet .
White says in addition to the pumpkin chuckin, there will be various activities for children including games and pony rides and of course lots of food.
Admission is three dollars per person and the money raised is for the up keep of the Kemble Arena.
This year’s competition kicks off around 1 PM.
