The Grey Bruce Crystal Meth Task Force has been in operation for the past 18 months and getting closer to going after some pilot projects.
Co-chair Terry Sanderson made an update report to Bruce County Councillors on Thursday — saying there are three focus groups within the task force looking at enforcement and community safety; education, prevention and harm reduction; and treatment.
Sanderson says one of the programs to be introduced is something called the Meth Watch.
He says it will be introduced to local businesses to make them aware of the potential misuse of retail products that can be used in the making of crystal meth.
Sanderson says they’re also looking at a pilot project where a couple of court workers would work with those charged with crystal meth offences and see if while jailed and free of meth could be guided towards treatment options.
He says the task force would also like to set up a Drug Court, where one institution is dedicated to dealing with drug offences in a unified process.
Sanderson indicated the Crown Attorney for Grey County has expressed an interest in setting up such a court in his jurisdiction.
He says the task force will continue its work this year.
It has a working budget of 50 thousand dollars from Bruce and Grey counties and they hope to receive money from the senior levels of government in the future.
