Nearly a month has passed since it was revealed that without support from the community – Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Hanover would have to close down.
Big Brothers and Big Sisters needs to raise 38 thousand dollars by December 31st to remain open.
So far the organization has managed to raise just over 41 hundred dollars – meaning there is still a long way to go.
Some upcoming fundraisers include the Halloween Heroes Badge sale – you can buy a badge for 2 dollars at Murphy Valu Mart, Hanover Foodland, Grants Independent, and Scotiabank.
Tickets are also on sale for the New Years Eve Gala “Gambling on Giggles” – which features Monte Carlo tables, a gourmet dinner, a performance by comedienne Judy Croon, and a dance.
The cost is 125 dollars per person, $225 per couple, or $800 for a group table of 8.
Tax receipts will be available – and with only 300 tickets available, the event is expected to sell out fast.
Executive Director Chantal La Duke says people have been coming through the door to express their support for the work the organization does.
She adds those who cannot donate money have been donating their time.
