A local firm is looking at Work-Share thru the Federal E.I. program to help it get thru a slowdown in orders this fall and winter.
Veyance Technologies Canada Incorporated of Owen Sound suffered a setback in the spring when a major customer stopped buying from the factory, and Plant Manage James Howell says they are still feeling the effects.
Howell says Veyance has applied to E.I. to have the 33 hourly workers at the plant put on workshare for a brief period of time.
He says it takes 30 days to get approval so the program is not in place yet.
Currently, Veyance has 2 shifts at the plant with the workers on four, ten hour days.
The application to E.I. would see the 4 day work-week continue, with the Feds picking up the cost of the workers wages for 1 day a week for 5 weeks, over the next few months.
Plant manager Howell says that is all the company has applied for and he hopes the economy starts to pick up in early 2011.
