The first annual Bruce Grey Forest Festival runs this week in West Grey.
It is being held at the Allen Park Conservation area from October 19th thru the 21st.
Close to one thousand elementary and secondary school students and volunteers will have a chance to learn about the importance of forest resources, the environment and their inter-dependence in an actual forest setting.
Grade 7 students from across Grey Bruce will be learning, while the high school students involved will be running the displays.
Festival co-ordinator Karen Mortimer says the Festival follows a pattern developed at the Carolinian Festival in Oxford county near London.
Mortimer says the Bruce Grey Forest Festival will include activites on forest ecosystems, forest resource management, species at risk, and climate change.
Last year, Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority approached the Grey Bruce Children’s Water Education Council and invited them to support a NEW initiative, the Bruce Grey Forest Festival.
Based on the success of the Grey Bruce Childrens Water Festival the idea was approved and further supported by 18 other community organizations.
