Changes to the bus pick up location in Riversdale has many parents up in arms.
Parent Melissa Lamont says the joint School Bus consortium needs to stop counting pennies and start focusing on student safety.
She is concerned about the bus stop location changes that now require small children to cross the very busy Highway 9.
Lamont says although the road is posted at 70 kilometres an hour — many whip through at 100 km an hour.
She says this concern will only grow in the winter when the children have to deal with high snow banks, poor visibility and no sidewalks.
Despite repeated requests to change this — Lamont says both the Bluewater District and Bruce Grey Catholic School Board refuse to budge on the issue.
Lamont says she has letters from both the OPP and the Ministry of Transportation stating how unsafe the highway is for children.
Brockton Mayor Charlie Bagnato will visit the local school bus consortium next week to protest the situation.
In the meantime the OPP are setting up an electronic speed sign to calculate how fast motorists are driving on the highway.
Currently there are half a dozen students between the ages 4 to 7 that have to cross Highway 9 to get to the new bus stop.
