Paid attendance to the Bruce County Museum exhibits has slipped below the 100 thousand dollar mark.
Museum business manager Cathy McGirr presented a report to Bruce County Council recently that shows from January to September 22nd this year — almost 15 thousand visitors paid close to 91 thousand dollars to see the exhibits.
Last year to date, over 17 thousand visitors shelled out almost 104 thousand dollars.
McGirr says according to their surveys — people were coming to the Saugeen Shores area to stay but they weren’t venturing from their cottages.
According to McGirr — that says to her that the recession is still affecting the area.
McGirr says the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre in Southampton has attempted to sweeten the attendance pot by creating a reciprocal admission agreement with the Grey Roots Museum.
In other words, if you belong to one museum you can visit the other free of charge.
McGirr says the program has been in effect for the past couple of years and it seems to be working very well.
209 visitors have taken advantage of the reciprocal agreement this year compared to 178 last year.
