Saving money for a new long term care home in Bruce County won’t start until next year but Kincardine mayor Larry Kraemer is already lobbying.
Kraemer suggests that Kincardine is “under invested” at the county level, pointing out the county facilities such as the museum and library headquarters in Saugeen Shores.
He says he would like to see a third county operated long term care home with this one located along the lakeshore.
Kraemer points out that both the Brucelea Haven and the Gateway Haven are already full with waiting lists and the boomers are starting to enter their senior years.
Next year Bruce County will dedicated 1 per cent of its raised taxation money for another facility down the road.
Kraemer says that amounts to close to 350 thousand dollars next year.
He’s pleased with the move saying it’s a start.
He says in ten years it could mean three and a half million dollars in the kitty although long term care construction could run about 20-million-dollars.
