If all goes as planned — students at St. Mary’s high school in Owen Sound will have a chance to participate in Transportation High Skills Major program next Fall.
The Bruce Grey Catholic School Board currently offers High Skills Major programs in the health care field.
And Superintendent of Secondary Education Jerry Casey says a transportation high skills major would be a major leap.
The School Board is hoping to partner with Georgian College in the venture and is putting together an application for the Ministry of Education.
Casey is confident there will be enough interest at the high school level to support such a program.
Last year 160 students participated in a successful high skills major program.
Casey notes students that participate in the High School Skills Major program have a distinct advantage at the post secondary level.
The program provides student with hands on industry experience that allows them to focus on a career path that matches their skills and interests.
