Bruce Power’s steam generator plan seems to have a lot of support among our listeners.
Despite a lot of noise from opponents of the steam generator plan, most of the people who took part in our survey are okay with the proposal.
In fact, the Bayshore Broadcasting News survey found 78 per cent of the people who took part support Bruce Power, while only 22 per cent say the risk is too great.
Bruce Power wants to ship 16 decommissioned steam generators overland to Owen Sound and then by Freighter thru the Great Lakes over to Sweden for recycling.
Opponents warn that it sets a precedent.
They also are worried about the possible impact on the health of residents along the Great Lakes system, or possibly an environmental impact.
Because of all the opposition, the Canadian Nuclear Safety commission held two days of hearings in Ottawa on the plan.
Bruce Power CEO and President Duncan Hawthorne doesn’t expect to see a ruling until next month.
