A blue button on the lapel of a local doctor, optometrist, nurse, or dentist can lead to a conversation to help you quit smoking.
A new campaign by the Grey Bruce Health Unit is helping all health professionals team up to help you kick the habit.
Crystal Ferguson — a Health Promoter with the Grey Bruce Health Unit — says for the entire month of October they will be handing out blue buttons to any health care provider who would like one that says, “Ask me, I can help.”
The buttons are to help spur conversation between the patient and the health care provider – in all fields – on how to quit smoking.
Ferguson says your health and tobacco use stems into all aspects of our well being; from oral health to optical heath as well as cardio vascular.
Ferguson says its because of this all health care professionals are being offered these buttons and literature to hand to their patients about quitting smoking.
She adds when any health worker asks if you use tobacco it opens up a window of opportunity to discuss kicking the habit.
