Saugeen Shores Police Service will be joining forces across Canada in Operation Impact this holiday weekend.
Inspector Ken McCulloch says it’s a traffic safety initiative with the goal of making the roads in Canada the safest in the world.
He says you’ll see increased police presence around the area this weekend, with additional officers brought in to do extra RIDE and seatbelt checks, and to focus on speed enforcement.
McCulloch says they’ll also keep an eye out for drinking and driving – especially for those under 22 with the new zero blood-alcohol-content law, and for those violating the province-wide ban on using cell phones while driving.
Through the increased enforcement, McCulloch says the plan is to encourage education and practice of safe driving measures.
McCulloch says residents can play an important role too, by calling police dispatch if they see any unsafe behaviour on the roads.
McCulloch adds with increased traffic on the roads due to the Thanksgiving holiday, he would like to remind you to slow down, take your time and don’t drink and drive.
