The construction boom is continuing in Owen Sound…
According to stats released by City hall — 36 building permits were issued with a construction value of 8.3 million dollars in October compared with only 2.4 million a year ago.
Major projects last month include construction of the new Alexandra School for 4.2 million, and a new two-storey office building on 2nd avenue east for 750 thousand dollars.
Development co-ordinator Sandra Parks says another big project was 15 Georgian College residence townhouses on 16th avenue east valued at 2.9 million dollars.
For the first 10 months of 2010, the total value of construction in Owen Sound is just shy of 60 million dollars which is a record.
In 2009, 16 million dollars worth of construction was done.
Parks adds new home construction is up in Owen Sound with 16 houses under construction compared with 8 last year.
Of course, the total value of construction in the city is skewed by the 38.6 million dollar Regional Rec Centre complex which was started this year.
