You’re invited to a Community Round Table hosted by the Grey Bruce Health Unit to talk about food security.
The health unit is hosting the meeting from 9:30 AM to Noon Friday at the health unit building in Owen Sound.
Public Health Dietician Kathryn Forsyth says they are bringing people and groups together to talk about food security.
Forsyth says we should think of the words “food security” as people having access to safe and nutritious food without having to worry about the cost.
Forsyth notes the weekly cost of groceries for a family of four in Grey Bruce — on average — is about 166 dollars.
But she points out when you combine that with the cost for a home and bills — there are some families who can’t afford it all.
Forsyth hopes the meeting today will inform people about poverty in Grey Bruce and they will discuss healthy ways to make sure your food is safe to eat.
Stats show over a million households in Canada don’t have a secure food intake.
The groups United Way and Safe and Sound will be at the meeting.
Mike Balkwill from the “Put Food in the Budget” provincial campaign is also scheduled to speak.
