It’s a time to give thanks and to give to those who need it most in Grey Bruce.
As we head into our Thanksgiving weekend and look forward to turkey and all the trimmings — the Salvation Army of Grey and Bruce is asking you to think of those who are without.
Spokesperson Alice Wannan says the need has never been greater as a few months over the past year have seen the use of the foodbank rise 15 per cent.
Wannan says the use of the foodbank does not discriminate as people that have never had to turn to it for help are walking in the front doors for the first time.
Wannan adds there are all ages of people using the foodbank from young families to the elderely.
She sees the need for the foodbank not decreasing as we head into the winter with the cost of heating and electricity on the rise.
Wannan says the food bank shelves are getting low on some necessities such as pasta sauce – canned meats and peanut butter.
There are several ways you can donated to the foodbank this thanksgiving — you can fill up the bags circulated in the Sun times and drop them off at any local grocery stores — you can drop your donation off at the salvation army in any of the local towns (Owen Sound, Port Elgin or Wiarton).
Bayshore Broadcasting is also collecting donations in the big trucks in our Owen Sound parking lot Friday and Saturday.
