After a bit of verbal jousting, Kincardine Council has approved an automatic aid agreement with Arran Elderslie in consideration of fire protection services.
Council approved third reading of the fire agreement bylaw on Wednesday.
Kincardine Fire Chief Jamie MacKinnon says the agreement, which included some boundary changes between Kincardine and Paisley fire departments, allows them to possibly achieve the 10-10 rule.
It calls for 10 firefighters at certain fires within 10 minutes.
It’s a system already in place in hydrant protected areas and they hope to extend it to rural areas where hydrants are scarce.
MacKinnon says the changes in the agreement do not compromise safety for those affected and the cost remains the same.
The agreement will kick in at the first of next year.
