Georgian Bluffs Mayor Alan Barfoot is calling on MP Larry Miller to help fight a reduction in rural mail delivery in the Shallow Lake area.
Barfoot says on September 3rd, council was asked to consider 3 “super” mail boxes for people living along highway 6 from the Village of Shallow Lake east to Ledgerock road, and the area west of the Village.
The Mayor is upset that Canada Post is going back on it’s word not to reduce rural mail delivery.
He says in 2009, the corporation assured him that “end of lane delivery” would be maintained, and that is why some residents moved their mail boxes to safer locations for delivery personnel.
Now, Canada Post has selected three locations it wants to use, including one at the Shallow Lake arena.
Mayor Barfoot says that is not suitable since there is already a lot of traffic in that area.
He wants Bruce Grey Owen Sound MP Larry Miller to fight the proposed changes.
