If Bruce Power gets the green light to transport their old steam generators to Owen Sound, it will not go through any portion of South Bruce Peninsula.
But Councillor Art King is concerned about the plan.
He did not mince words during a presentation by Bruce Power Community and Government Relations Manager Ross Lamont on Tuesday night.
Lamont was making a call to South Bruce Peninsula to explain the company’s plans and the safety of the whole venture as he has done for months in other communities.
Lamont pointed out with their new proposed route which takes the generators inland, the municipality will not be affected.
The new route will still go through Saugeen Shores but will likely travel through Tara as well on its way to Owen Sound, should it be approved.
King says the whole project sets a precedent where he believes the transport and storage of nuclear waste will become a normal occurrence.
He says he can’t believe more people haven’t spoken out against the plan.
Most of the council was supportive of Bruce Power’s plan.
Afterwards Lamont said he doesn’t expect everyone to support the plans of Bruce Power but the company is very pleased with the support it has received from most communities in Bruce and Grey.
