Candles will light the way as women Take Back the Night in Kincardine.
The Women’s House Serving Bruce and Grey will again host the event this year in Victoria Park.
Volunteer Coordinator Candice Burton says last year they saw about 50 participants, and they’re hoping to attract that many again tonight .
Burton says the event is to promote peace and end violence against women and children.
She says it originated in the 1970s as a way to help women walk without fear, but she says the reality is that most of the violence that happens to women is at the hands of men they know and love.
To that end, she says men are part of the solution when it comes to ending abuse toward women.
Burton invites everybody to take part in tonight’s walk – female and male.
It starts at 6:30 PM tonight at the gazebo in Kincardine’s Victoria Park.
Burton says they will start off sharing a history of the event, and allow women to share their experiences with violence.
From there, they will walk to Getty’s Park, light candles along a path, and make their way back to Victoria Park.
