A local Writer and artist has returned home to Owen Sound after winning an award at the International Film Festival in Ireland.
Joan Chandler won the Best Original Screenplay award for “Soul Cages” – a screenplay she hopes will soon become a motion picture.
Chandler says “Soul Cages” is about a cynical young woman whose mother has recently drowned and whose lover is lost at sea.
She says her writing comes from personal experience and adds the screenplay is based on an old Irish folk tale which she wanted to explore in greater detail.
Chandler says it can be a very long process to go from screenplay to movie — but she is hopeful she can sell her work to a producer either in Canada or Hollywood.
The accolades don’t stop there for Chandler — she returned home in time to accept the Phil Hartman Arts and Humanitarian Award for her 25 years in theatre.
Chandler is already working on her next project which is currently in the planning stages.
