The Kincardine Recreational Services Committee is working to make Station Beach a safer place to have fun.
The moves comes after the tragic drowning this summer of a co-op student from France who was not familiar with the undertow capabilities of the waters off Station Beach.
Committee member Councillor Guy Anderson says the solution is not easy.
He says all they can do is try to make the situation better because they’ll never correct it outright.
Anderson says they’re talking about better signage at the beach, perhaps some programs at school and information on undertows and rip tides in tourist guides and brochures.
He says the committee has addressed the issue of hiring lifeguards but he says they have miles of beach and having lifeguards for 100 yards of beach doesn’t seem like the answer.
Anderson says the fact of the matter is the beach areas they have are not real safe but there are some areas that can be very dangerous at times.
