A Westario Power worker has been killed in Port Elgin after trying to make repairs from last night’s storm.
Saugeen Shores Police confirm the man was working on a power station at Bruce and Catherine Streets around midnight when he was involved in an accident.
Police Chief Dan Rivett says he was rushed to Southampton hospital by ambulance, but died from his injuries.
No name has been released — and Westario Power says the company is deeply saddened by the event.
Rivett says the investigation is now being handled by the Ministry of Labour and Westario Power.
A spokesperson with the Ministry of Labour has confirmed its involvement, and says an electrical engineer is being sent to the site to aid in the investigation.
Reports from the scene suggest the 27 year old worker was hit with 24-hundred volts of electricity.
Those reports also say the man had a large open chest wound and third degree burns.
Power is still out for residents in the area of that hydro station.
It’s affecting homes on Bruce, Catherine, Mill and Goderich Streets.
Investigators remain on scene.
Meanwhile — thousands of other homes across Ontario were affected with power outages today.
