Royal Canadian Legions are the lifeblood of many communities and this week allows us time to pay tribute to their contribution.
Ontario has declared this week as “Legion Week.”
Walkerton Legion Media Relations Officer Tim Mancell says it’s a good time to stop and reflect upon the positive impact legions have on communities.
He notes many raise money for local hospitals, minor sports or community projects.
Mancell encourages the public to also take time to reflect upon our veterans who have passed on — as well as those who died in the line of duty.
Mancell recommends a visit to the cenotaph, spending time with a veteran or taking in one of the various Legion events.
Mancell says we should never take for granted our freedom and the high price that was paid for that freedom by those who came before us.
In honour of Legion Week — the public can take in the ‘Honour A Hero’ display of military memorabilia at Victoria Jubilee Hall on Saturday September 25th.
