Sunday marks 30 years since Terry Fox started his Marathon of Hope.
Communities across the Country are continuing his efforts to this day.
Terry Fox ran 143 days of his Marathon before his cancer took him off the road.
30 years later 230 locations across the province will be running, walking, biking, or wheeling to keep Terry’s dreams of fundraising alive.
The Owen Sound Terry Fox run is one of 15 different events taking place all over Grey Bruce and Simcoe Counties.
There are also Terry Fox runs in Kincardine, Saugeen Shores, Tobermory, Lion’s Head, Wiarton, Hanover, Walkerton, Durham, Meaford, Collingwood and Badjeros.
Other runs are being held in Mount Forest, Palmerston, Listowel, Brussels, Clinton, Seaforth, Exeter, Goderich, Lucknow, and Bayfield.
Glemena Bettencourt had the opportunity to run with Terry back in 1980 for several miles in the GTA.
Bettencourt says there was something about Terry that just made you want to be around him.
Bettencourt feels it was Terry’s passion and selflessness that made such a mark with people then and even now.
Bettencourt feels it’s important to keep the run alive so that Terry’s efforts are not for nothing.
