The Liberal government received a tongue-lashing in the legislature from Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MPP Bill Murdoch over Bill 72.
Murdoch says the “Water Opportunities and Water Conservation Act” will further regulate and tax small water systems in Ontario.
He says it isnt any good for those living in rural Ontario, and Murdoch warned during Tuesdays debate there is a hidden price tag for the new regulations.
Bill Murdoch argues that small towns could not afford more regulations and layers of bureaucracy.
He says this bill demands more water testing and a new level of bureaucracy that will drive up the price of water in small communities.
The Bruce Grey Owen Sound MPP then presented a resolution from Georgian Bluffs, which cautioned against over-regulating small, rural water systems without the funding and support for compliance.
Pointing to a lack of discussion on the government side of the House, Murdoch questioned the silence of the Liberal backbenchers.
