Approval of the final Lake Huron Learning Central rental agreement was on the Kincardine council agenda on Wednesday — but it was skipped without an explanation.
Bayshore Broadcasting News has learned the formal set-up of the collaborative has hit a detour.
Mayor Larry Kraemer tells us the original funding that came from Ontario Power Generation for the collaborative was predicated on the institution having access to all of the former Westario building.
However, the lease states the second floor of the structure is not included in the deal.
Kraemer says this proposal completely changes the entire plan and the collaborative does not want to move forward without checking first with OPG.
We asked Kraemer if he sensed a possible loss of the higher learning facility because of the change in the lease agreement and he said council does run that risk.
The collaborative, when in full operation, would offer courses from higher learning institutions such as Georgian College in Owen Sound and Western University in London.
It’s not know if or when a deal might be struck.
