There’s now a fourth name in the mix for the Progressive Conservative nomination in Bruce Grey Owen Sound.
West Grey Deputy Mayor Dan Sullivan has officially entered the race to replace retiring MPP Bill Murdoch.
Sullivan is also challenging for the mayor’s job in West Grey.
His entry was Monday — two days before the nomination deadline, which is today.
Sullivan says he knows he’s starting late in the process, but he believes he has the necessary support to win the nod on October 6th.
Sullivan will not withdraw from the mayoral race in West Grey, where he’s taking on incumbent Kevin Eccles.
But he will make it clear to voters that if he wins the PC nomination, that is where his focus will be.
Sullivan says it will be up to the voters to decide if they want him to also lead the municipality.
He’s concerned that rural Ontario is losing its voice at Queen’s Park and that Ontarians are losing confidence in their province.
Sullivan also has fiscal concerns, citing the HST and other tax grabs as things people should vote against in the next provincial election in October 2011.
Sullivan is a lifelong Durham resident who worked in municipal administration for 17 years before stepping into the political arena in 2006, when he beat Delton Becker in a two-man race for deputy mayor of West Grey.
He also challenged Becker for mayor of that municipality in 2000 while still technically the town clerk of what was then the separate town of Durham. He lost that race by fewer than 200 votes.
Sullivan joins a race that already includes Mark Wunderlich of Allenford, Michael Schmidt of Durham and Bill Walker of Port Elgin.
