Ministry of Labour investigators continue to probe the deaths of two farm workers at a farm near Ayton, just south of Hanover.
West Grey Police were called at 9 AM Friday to Filsinger’s Organic Foods and Orchards, about two workers who had collapsed.
The 36 and 44 year old men, both migrant workers from Jamaica, were rushed to Hanover hospital where they were later pronounced dead.
Ministry of Labour spokesperson Matt Blajer says the two men were working on a pump inside an “apple vinegar cider” vat, when they were overcome by gas.
The two were pulled out of the vat with vital signs absent.
Blajer says the Ministry of Labour is waiting for autopsy results to confirm what type of gas was inside the vat.
Eight directives have been given to the owners of Filsinger’s, including one that the cidar vat be left untouched, with no one allowed into it before their investigation wraps up.
