Good news for the Lake Huron Fishing Club.
At Thursday night’s meeting — ten people were nominated for positions on the executive board.
Outgoing president Ray Walser had expressed concerns that if ten names couldn’t be found, the club would have to fold.
For a number of years, the executive board has been operating with anywhere from six to eight members, and the workload has become too much.
Al Wilkins has served on the executive board for numerous years, and will again this year.
Wilkins says it is a relief that the club won’t fold, and it’s good to have some fresh blood to get some new ideas and new energy.
He says if the club had folded, a number of programs it is involved with may have been in jeopardy.
That includes the annual Chantry Chinook Classic Salmon Derby, and the two fish hatcheries in Kincardine and Port Elgin would shut down.
Wilkins says a big concern was for the public boat launch the club obtained from the Ministry of Natural Resources.
He says he’s sure if the launch was returned to the Ministry, public access would be lost.
The ten board members will meet again on Thursday, September 16th and elect amongst themselves the various positions including president and vice-president.
The executive board represents the 300 members of the Lake Huron Fishing Club.
