It was inevitable but now it’s official.
Bruce Power has requested the official support of Kincardine council for their plan to ship 16 100-tonne steam generators overseas for recycling.
Bruce Power officials presented the motion to council in early July but it was last night that council unanimously supported the motion.
Kincardine deputy mayor Laura Haight says all precautions have been taken by the company and she has no doubt the safety of the project is assured.
Haight says their thoughts will be forwarded to the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission which will be holding a hearing on the matter later this month.
The Bruce Power plans have created much controversy around the world.
The plan is to have the low level waste radiation generators trucked to Owen Sound harbour where they will be loaded on a ship bound for Sweden.
Many groups and several municipalities along the propopsed route have questioned the safety of such a project.
