The 2010 Municipal Elections are coming quickly, but one local councillor is aiming for Queen’s Park.
Central Huron Deputy Reeve John Bezaire says he won’t be running again in the municipal election, but will instead seek the Conservative nomination in Huron-Bruce for next year’s provincial election.
Bezaire says he’s grown frustrated with the relationship between the province and municipalities and he feels it’s time for a change.
He says it’s hard to sit in municipal office and know there isn’t really much you can change in the community without first going to the province.
Bezaire says current Huron-Bruce MPP Carol Mitchell has worked very hard for the community, but he wants to take a different approach and work with the municipalities.
He says she’s limited by the policy of her party, and although she’s a strong voice for the riding, the Liberals overall aren’t very concerned with rural Ontario.
Bezaire has been sitting on municipal council for 18 years.
