The 12 residents of Bayview Manor who were forced out of their home by a fire on Sunday have found new homes in other local facilities.
Although Bayview Manor is not owned or operated by the County of Grey, there is an assistance agreement between the home and the county, which has stepped in to place the residents in safe new homes.
Social Services Director Barb Fedy notes the residents need specialized care that goes beyond what they would receive if they were senior citizens in an average retirement home.
Fedy says they would not have been able to function in a motel or something of that nature.
The County is also making sure, through Ontario Works, that the residents will get what they need to replace items they lost in the devastating blaze.
Fedy says it’s still not exactly clear what was lost in terms of clothing, medications and other personal belongings, but the important thing is that no one was killed or harmed.
Grey County Warden Arlene Wright praises the job Fedy and other county staff members have done.
Fedy cites Lynne Johnson, the county’s director of long-term care, as one in particular who has worked alongside her to try to find solutions for the 12 Bayview Manor residents.
