12 community partners of their Police and Marine programs’ are putting on demonstrations as part of first day celebrations.
Police Foundation’s Faculty Member Catherine Wareham says its great for students because they meet recruiters.
Wareham says it gives students a chance to network with employees at organizations like the OPP, Owen Sound Police, the Coast Guard and Bruce Power.
Wareham says they’re opening up the demonstrations to the public starting at 1:30 PM today.
Along with the Coast Guard and Police demonstrations, Wareham says the public can see Bruce Powers Nuclear Response Teams’ light armoured vehicle.
The Police Foundation Program is almost full and Wareham says if you’re thinking of applying for January – apply now because spots will be limited.
Meanwhile, students we spoke to were excited for the first day of college and happy their schedules are light to begin with.
Many say they are just enjoying the fun events planned around campus.
But some are getting down to business right away.
One first year student is taking upgrading courses so he can apply for marine engineering next year.
Another first year student started Carpentry Techniques and says he’s geared up to learn how to build a house.
