It is a literary tribute to the city of Owen Sound, and only the second ever presented in Canada.
The plaque unveiled Thursday morning at the harbourfront is to recognize Owen Sound being installed in the Project Bookmark Canada series.
Margaret Hodgins, the librarian at Owen Sound Library says the best way to describe the award is a tribute to the scenic city as described in a novel.
The Novel that brought the bookmark to Owen Sound is “The Rogues Wedding” by Terry Griggs.
Local author Griggs novel is set in the victorian ages and speaks of Owen Sound and different locales in the city throughout the book.
Hodgins says the novel is very descriptive of the scenic city, to the point where you can walk through the city, novel in hand, and visualize the story.
What is very unique of this tribute is it is only the second in Canada to be awarded.
The award stemmed out of the visit from Miranda Hill, the executive director of the project visiting the city for the emancipation festival and immediately thought the city would be perfect.
Hodgins says the city of Toronto is the only other location thus fars to be awarded the bookmark.
Griggs was in town to sign books and do a reading from the novel.
Hodgins says it is a great honour for the artisan society within Owen Sound to be chosen as only the second instalment.
She adds the project is still new in the country but there will be further bookmarks named across Canada and will be able to be seen at project www.bookmarkcanada.ca
