The recovery process for Owen Sound skier Larisa Yurkiw continues.
The 22 year old Yurkiw — who was badly injured in a crash at Val D’Isere, France last December — was in London this week to see her surgeon.
Doctor Litchfield informed Yurkiw that he could see progress in the recovery of her knee.
Yurkiw admits she’s been doing a modified and highly reduced training routine designed to strengthen the weakened area of her leg, but
However, Dr Litchfield has requested that Yurkiw do even less training and working out during the recovery process.
Yurkiw has also been doing pool treatments on both sides of the border and is gracious for the support she’s received from Stone Tree and their pool facility
When the new Rec Centre is completed, a person injured in the way that Yurkiw was injured, could do their rehabilitation in Owen Sound at the new pool.
There has been no exact date established for Yurkiw to put on her skis.
She will not compete on the World Cup circuit this year, and hopes to be able to go skiing around Christmas.
Yurkiw says if she doesn’t meet that target date, she’ll accept that her knee isn’t ready and set a new target date rather than risk the rehabilitation process.
