Helping someone who is suffering from Alzheimer’s can take a toll on your own mental and physical well-being.
The Alzheimer’s Society of Grey-Bruce is starting a new support group tonight in Port Elgin.
Public Education Co-ordinator Sandra Hong says studies have proven that counselling and support can alleviate depression in caregivers.
The group will meet the first Tuesday of every month at the Kingsway Arms Elgin Lodge on Mary Street from 7 PM until 9 PM.
There are already caregiver support groups in Owen Sound, Hanover, Kincardine, Markdale and Thornbury.
Hong says a new group will also start up in Sauble Beach this month.
It will run the second Tuesday of every month from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM in the Board Room of the Sauble Family Health Team on Main Street.
The sessions are free, and if you’re interested you can meet with the group or contact the Alzheimer’s Society directly.
