Health and wellness will play a major focus for the Bruce Grey Catholic School Board in the upcoming year.
This after staff sick time cost the school board over 900 thousand dollars.
This equates to 31 hundred sick days a year or 7.4 sick days per employee.
Even so, these numbers represent a 30 per cent drop from the previous school year which boasted unusually high absentee rates.
Director of Human Resources Suzanne White says unfortunately there are some long term sick times that can’t be avoided such as chemo treatments or surgery recovery.
She says it is these serious long term illnesses that often skew the numbers.
But as for employee health as a whole, White says staff are encouraged to live a healthy active life.
The School Board tries to promote this through various health and wellness programs, information sessions and exercise classes.
