The first ever Bayshore Race is set for today in Owen Sound and features a half marathon, a 10 K race and a 5 K walk.
Organizers anticipate as many as 350 people will participate in the various distances of the race, which also serves as a fundraiser for the Owen Sound Hospital Foundation.
Proceeds from the event will help to replace six electrocardiogram machines at the Owen Sound Regional Hospital with new state-of-the-art digital units.
Race Director Tony Martin says there was a definite need for this type of event in Owen Sound.
He says distance running is quite popular for a large number of athletes in our region, yet there was no major distance race in the city.
Martin states the 3 different distances are designed to accommodate runners and walkers of every description.
On the half marathon circuit, Martin says the route is very scenic, but also will pose a significant challenge on the uphill leg from Leith to Annan.
All three disciplines in the Bayshore Race commence Sunday morning from the Harry Lumley-Bayshore Community Center.
The 10 K and Half Marathon begin at 9 AM, followed by the 5 K walk at 9:05 AM.
