With just over a week til the kids head back to school — there are brand new little students who are not just nervous of junior kindergarten but of the big yellow bus.
The First riders program is running throughout Grey Bruce.
The chair of the school bus operators and owner of Martin School Transit Paul Wylie says this is a great way to ease the fears of tiny riders and their parents.
Wylie says the program has been successful in the past and helps kids see the safe way to ride the bus and that there is nothing to be afraid of.
He says the turnout is always strong and the program includes seeing a short film then a ride on the bus and the kids can ask whatever questions they want.
The program runs at 6 different locations throughout Grey Bruce and sessions run every 30 minutes.
Wylie says if you happen to miss the program you can always call your local operator and they will usually let you take a look at the bus with the student.
And to ease parents – even if your little student seems upset – the child will normally calm righ down once the doors close and the parents stay behind on the first day.

Macphail Memorial, Flesherton – 10am-noon
St Anthonys School, Kincardine – 9am-noon
Laidlaw first student office, Port Elgin – 10am-noon
Paisley Central, Paisley – at 1pm ONLY
Sydenham Community School, Owen Sound – 9am-11:30am
St Vincent Euphrasia, Meaford – 10-noon
